Studio Tango Montréal / Tango Social Club is located in the Villeray district of Montreal. Our space boasts two large studios, each with a very distinctive style. The two studios are connected by a passageway that can be opened during larger events, increasing room capacity to over 300. A smaller studio is also available for private classes and small rehearsals.
THREE SPLENDID VENUES FOR OUR SPECIAL MILONGAS
1) The Sanctuaire Hall of the Monastère (le St-Jax)
1439 Ste-Catherine Street West (Entrance on Bishop Street), Montreal, H3G 1S6
Guy-Concordia Métro station
Our Friday Gala-Milonga will be held in this spectacular downtown location. Le Sanctuaire is the oldest part of the St-Jax Centre, a splendid Gothic Revival-style church that was built in 1864. The first Anglican church in the city and the second oldest structure on Sainte-Catherine Street, the Sanctuaire boasts magnificent wooden ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. Still used for services on Sundays, St-Jax is also home to a local circus troupe and is used for performances and special events. The hall boasts a superior sound system and magnificent lighting capacities. We used the Sanctuaire for our Friday and Saturday Galas in 2023 and for our Friday night milonga last year as well. We are super happy to be returning this year for the Friday night Gala!
2) The Chapel at Jean-de-Brébeuf College
3200 Chemin de la Côte Ste-Catherine, Montréal, H3T 1C9
metro station Côte-des-Neiges or Bus 129
Our Saturday AND Sunday evening Gala Milongas will take place here
Built in 1927-28, the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf chapel was designed by Father Félix Martin and constructed under the supervision of architects Dalbé Viau and Alphonse Venne with the collaboration of architect Alphonse Piché, who later completed the project. The design was inspired by the Saint-Apollinaire-le-Neuf church in Ravenna, France. During renovations in 2003-2004, the original columns, friezes, and other architectural details were carefully restored and enhanced. Eight mural works by artist René Derouin were permanently installed to celebrate the college’s 75th anniversary. We were thrilled to be able to use this beautiful and elegant venue for the first time last year, and are excited to be returning this year!
Please note! The floor of this magnificent room is made of the original ceramic tiles that date back to the 20’s! They are in very good condition (uniform, without cracks, very smooth). However, as a ceramic surface is harder than most of us are used to, we recommend bringing a pair of “comfortable” shoes for wear during your ‘‘end of evening’’ tandas.
3) The Plaza Theatre
6505 St-Hubert, H2S 2M6
Métro Beaubien, or bus 18
Located on the ''Plaza St-Hubert'' (an outdoor shopping mall) and only steps away from the Beaubien metro station.
Our Monday closing milonga and film presentations will take place here.
Canadian première of the film ‘‘Tuve el corazon’’ and presentation of Loca (NFB short) followed by a Q & A with the creators of both, and our closing milonga!
The Plaza Theatre opened as a luxurious movie house in 1922. (See photo, bottom right) and up until the late 40's was an elegant, very prestigeous fixture of the neighbourhood. With the popularity of television in the 1950's, the Plaza, like many theatres of its size was forced to downsize and in 1957 cement was poured and the bottom floor turned into a bowling alley. Films continued to be shown on the upper floor until the theatre closed in the late 70's. After major renovations in 2003, the Plaza re-opened as a multidisciplinary cultural space.

GETTING AROUND MONTREAL is quite easy. Our studio is located on a bus route that operates 24 hours a day. The metro stations of Castelnau (on the blue line) and Jarry (orange line) are both just a few steps from our premises. Getting to the city center can take around 30 minutes, depending on the time of day and traffic. Taxis are not very expensive and are easy to hail on the street :-) We also have a bike-renting program (Bixi). Note: Due to traffic and detours, renting a car in Montreal is not recommended.
